Being Microsoft Windows user for 25+ years, i've learned a lot and used it a lot. But now its becoming as a business to force the me to upgrade my hardwares (10+ yrs old Desktop, Laptop). I'm not ready to do that.
COVID19 lock down helped me to overcome this issue. Now i'm Linux(Mint) user. It took two weeks to select the flavor of Linux. I did download one distro per day, used as live OS. There are lot of distros available. I settled with Mint for my desktop and Puppy Linux for my laptop. I changed my business computers too.. Total of 6 computers changed to Linux Mint.
The learning curve is very steep, it took just one week to get used to it, not a big problem. I encounter problem with setup my USB wifi dongle, the online forum helped me. All set now, everyday activities with Linux.
Being a AVR Assembly Language programmer i feel happy with Linux. I'm using Geany for writing code, AVRA to compile it and AVRDUDE to upload it. All are very handy. I do not need to install 1GB AVR Studio. And the carbon foot print also reduced.
Electronics PCB designing kiCAD is wonderful. It really awesome, very user friendly and very fast.
All SDR software, logging software are working fine under Linux.
For mechanical designing i'm learning freeCAD, hope that will also become my preferred software.
